OUR ENGAGEMENT

February 05, 2015 by Ashley Chea

I wanted to share our beautiful love story for all my new followers and those of you who may have been around when it happened.

Chea proposed to me on his birthday 10/17/2014 and it was one of the most beautiful moments of our relationship. Second to the birth of our daughter AmirahLee, nothing in this world could ever top that.

Originally I planned a birthday-going away party for Chea and myself. We moved from Columbus Ohio to Orange Country (notice the CO-OC parallel). Anyways we moved in November about a week before thanksgiving. We planned and successfully accomplished driving across country with a trailer attached to our truck. Before this magical trip across country I wanted to make sure my soon to be fiance was happy and celebrated.

Chea is the type of person who always puts everyone before himself. He works hard and long hours to manage music artist on top of his other job in insurance. He literally will do anything to make myself and our daughter happy. He has this beautiful magnetic energy that projects honesty, love and loyalty. He is honestly one of the very few people in this world that I can say is a good person. I believe Allah put him in my life because we are truly the same person when it comes to how we love and loyalty. Although we go about it much differently, we both wake up with the same goal of trying to make one another and ourselves completely happy.

I asked my best friend and cousins Nalo, Sonje and Brittany to plan Chea's going away party. We were so busy packing up our house I really had no time to plan his party. He was out of town the entire week before we moved and I needed to get our house together for him. My friends are amazing at what they do so I feel completely comfortable letting them take over any party plans I have. The day of the party was normal, my friends came over to get dressed and we drank wine and laughed. Chea and I headed to the party and ate good food, listened to music and enjoyed our family and friends. The surprise came at the end of the night when Chea asked Amirah and me to stand up and give a speech to thank everyone. So I spoke first and when Chea was done with his speech he got down on one knee and proposed to me in front of all of our friends and family. I literally had no idea this was going to happen, we decided long ago that getting married wasn't a priority but being happy and committed to one another was.

The most amazing part of it all was that my daughter knew about the ring and the proposal for two months before it happened. He even hid the ring in his work bag that sat in our living room every single day. I think its super beautiful that my daughter and her father were able to share that secret together. However she better not ever keep a secret from me again lol.

I seriously have found the most amazing partner in this world in Chea. He has always been a surprise enlightening force in my life.  I was set on marrying a black man that burned incense and listened to Lauryn Hill and Dwele in late hours of the night like myself. Instead Chea came into my life with every topical difference possible. He had no idea who half of my favorite artist were, but he was always open to learn. I'm from the inner city and he is from the inner country and we couldn't have been more different. However our souls have always been aligned and that is what spoke to our hearts when we met. Even though we were different, we've always shared the same values, wants and desires for our lives and our daughter. What I have learned in the six years that we have been together is that commitment comes long before a ring.

The impact that Chea has had on my life is insurmountable to any other person I've met. He loves so freely and so openly, as I do with him. I've never had to have my guard up around him, he provides me much comfort in his love. He laughs at my jokes and doesn't laugh when they aren't funny. He tells me to be my most natural self and then kisses me and tells me I'm beautiful. He believes in me and supports me and actively contributes to my dreams. From the moment we decided to keep our daughter ( yes we discussed it bc we were only 21 and 22). We both have been 100 percent committed to her  education,, dreams but most importantly loving her. Chea proposing to me on his own birthday is a perfect reflection of who he is as an man and person. I am completely comfortable focusing on only him because I know he would do the same thing for me. However we encourage one another to go after our own dreams and desires and that alone makes our love even stronger.  Here are a few pics from the day below.
